LoveDistance is a private app for couples. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it lives, and your rights. The short version: your data is shared with exactly one person — your partner. We don’t run analytics, we don’t track you, we don’t sell anything, and when you disconnect, everything is deleted.
Who we are
LoveDistance is developed by Kadosa Budai, an independent developer based in the European Union (“we,” “us”). For anything privacy-related, contact: budaikadosa@icloud.com .
What data the app handles
You never create an account. The app signs your device in anonymously — we don’t collect your email address, phone number, or real identity. Your device is identified by a random ID.
Data you choose to enter, which exists so it can be shared with your paired partner:
- Display names, profile photos, your anniversary date, and (optionally) your next visit date
- Chat messages, photos, and voice notes
- Memories, “open when…” letters, bucket-list items, and daily-question answers
- Scheduled call times
- While you use the touch board: your chosen emoji marker and your finger’s position on the board (positions are transient presence data, deleted when you lift your finger)
Data handled optionally, only if you turn it on:
- Approximate location (rounded to about 1 km): only if you tap “Share my time & weather,” so your partner can see your local time and weather. Your coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo (a weather service, https://open-meteo.com) solely to fetch the weather; Open-Meteo requires no account and receives no identifiers beyond the coordinates.
- Microphone: only while you record a voice note.
- Calendar: only if you tap “Add to calendar” — the event is written to your device’s calendar and never leaves it.
- Photos: the system photo picker shares only the specific photos you select; the app has no access to your photo library.
- Push notification token: so your partner’s messages can reach your phone when the app is closed.
Data we do not collect: analytics, advertising identifiers, usage tracking, contacts, browsing data — none of it. The app contains no ads and no third-party analytics SDKs.
Where your data lives
Your shared data is stored with Google Firebase (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC), which acts as our data processor:
- Text content (messages, memories, letters, etc.) is stored in the European Union (Firestore, multi-region Belgium/Netherlands).
- Media files (photos, voice notes) are stored in the United States (Cloud Storage, US-EAST1). This EU→US transfer is covered by Google’s certification under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and by Standard Contractual Clauses included in Google’s data-processing terms.
All transfers use TLS encryption, and server-side access rules restrict every piece of couple data to exactly the two paired devices.
Who can see your data
Your paired partner — that’s the entire list. We have technical access as the operator of the Firebase project but do not access couple content except where strictly necessary to debug a problem you report to us. We never sell or share data with third parties for marketing.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it
- Data is kept for as long as your couple connection exists.
- Disconnecting from your partner (Settings → Disconnect) permanently deletes all shared data — every message, photo, voice note, memory, letter, and list — from our servers and from both phones. This is immediate and cannot be undone.
- Invite codes expire automatically after 48 hours and are deleted when used.
- Deleting the app removes all locally stored data from your device.
Your rights (GDPR and similar laws)
You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data, and to lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority. Most of these you can exercise directly in the app (edit, or disconnect to delete everything). For anything else, email budaikadosa@icloud.com – since accounts are anonymous, deletion requests are easiest to fulfill via the in-app Disconnect, which requires no contact with us at all.
The legal bases we rely on are the performance of the service you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) for shared content, and your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for optional features like location sharing, which you can withdraw at any time in iOS Settings.
Children
LoveDistance is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly process children’s data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we’ll note it in the app’s release notes and update the effective date above.
